This course is for a mid-level manager working at operations level. They will have oversight of one or two teams, who will have their own team leaders or managers. The apprentice will have around 5 years' experience in a management role, but, to date, has had no formal training in how to lead and manage.

You will acquire all the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to complete this Level 5 Operations / Departmental Manager Apprenticeship through focussing on the following modules:
Learning cycles - 4 3 months
Position yourself within your organisational structure and think about how your organisation itself is positioned within the wider business landscape.
Learning cycles - 3 4 months
Investigate how to plan, deliver and adapt operational plans to ensure that you deliver the most benefit for your team and your organisation.
You will learn about yourself as a manager and leader, and how you can use your skills to create and grow a high performing team
Learning cycles - 3 3 months
You will learn how to communicate effectively within your organisation and outside it.
In Part 1 of the programme, you will step back from your current role to examine who you are as a manager and leader. As part of this assessment, you will position yourself within your organisational structure and think about how your organisation itself is positioned within the wider business landscape
In Part 2 of the programme, you will investigate how to plan, deliver and adapt operational plans to ensure that you deliver the most benefit for your team and your organisation
In Part 3 of the programme, you will learn about yourself as a manager and leader, and how you can use your skills to create and grow a high performing team. You have touched on your image of yourself as a leader and manager at the beginning of the course. You will now have the opportunity to delve deeper into your different leadership styles and what impact these have on you and those around you.
In Part 4 of the programme, you will learn how to communicate effectively within your organisation and outside it. What you learn about stakeholder management you will then use to improve your project management delivery, getting the most out of those working on the project, communicating progress and keeping project owners updated.

Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, Level 5 Operations / Departmental Manager Apprenticeship curriculum is designed to connect learning to personal and company goals through a blend of theoretical and applied activities.
The programme concludes with an End Point Assessment run by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation. It involves two methods of assessment, which can be delivered in any order:
1) Presentation with questions and answers A presentation title is set by CMI based on the knowledge, skills and behaviours covered within the apprenticeship. Once the title has been set, learners have two weeks to prepare and submit a copy of the presentation, which will be delivered either via online video conferencing or face to face in 20 minutes and is followed by 30 minutes for questioning.
2) Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence A 60 minutes discussion of the continued professional development and portfolio completed during the programme. Evidence of this will have been submitted ahead of time.
